"Your presentation gave me chills all through it, but especially when you talked about alternatives to alcohol and drugs." A female student at Washington State University
Dennis' informative and entertaining presentation includes PowerPoint (including short movie clips, photos, shocking facts and statistics), engaging stories, and very important preventive, life-enhancing information. He can include a live music performance (as a former member of some very famous bands).

Dennis enjoys sharing the wisdom and experience he's accumulated over the years regarding alcohol and drug use. And students clearly enjoy hearing him as evidenced by their reviews. Dennis shares insights and pertinent stories from his own interesting life and the lives of others, including some tragedies resulting from alcohol and drug abuse. He also helps students evaluate how decisions they make now, will affect their future, and gives real alternatives to abusing alcohol and drugs.

The Problem: Do you know how college students sometimes ruin their college career, health, finances, relationships and even die from overdoses or alcohol/drug related accidents? For example, alcohol is involved in 50% of all driving fatalities. Also, a University of Georgia study reported that of those individuals who experienced unwanted sexual intercourse in the last year, 92.1% had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Besides the emotional trauma that can occur from these kinds of encounters, other bad outcomes could be: unwanted pregnancies, broken hearts and sexual diseases. USA Today reported that shockingly, 1/2 of everyone between puberty and 25 years old in the United States has had a sexually transmitted disease.

The Solution: Dennis Marcellino's "The ABCs of College Drinking and Drug Abuse" presentation shows students how to not be vulnerable to falling into the tragedies that often come from abusing alcohol and drugs.

How does he do that? Dennis' speech includes video examples and "sobering" facts on the real dangers associated with abusing alcohol and drugs. But he realizes that people are often driven more by feelings than logic.

(Dennis describes how his speech fits in with campus life:) "The purpose of my speech is to help students evaluate the overall picture of what role alcohol plays in their lives. Through facts, convincing arguments and clear perspectives, i
t helps create a strong heart and mind agreement with the policy standards that a college and legal community have already set. The idea is to come upon the highest possible standard whereby students can be the happiest and most productive, given all of the other pressures in their lives ... moving into adulthood, moving out of childhood/teenage, deciding on a profession, deciding on a mate, how to deal with peer pressure, how to choose friends and activities, finding out who they really are, deciding on their beliefs and personal philosophy of life, etc. In terms of alcohol and drugs, I've lived on all sides of this issue, from casual drinking and drug use to heavy drinking and drug use to no drinking or drug use. So I point out all sides of those approaches and their ramifications ... the good, the bad and the dangerous. It all comes down to each person feeling free to flow with who they really are, without giving in to pressures from others that go against who they are. A line from a song says this well: "Wonderful is what you'll feel in you when you do the things you're made to do"."

Dennis includes personal stories of the long-lasting suffering that can come from a momentary impulse to give in to a drug or alcohol experiment while looking for a fun experience. Dennis' speech is based on unique insights that come from combining his education and backgrounds in psychology, engineering and the music business. He also has personally experienced an alcohol and drug problem. But he permanenty conquered that 25 years ago (after 18 years of abuse). Dennis is the author of three books on addiction and has done many TV and radio interviews on this subject. As a former member of top name bands, he can also include a live musical performance, which always gets a great response from the audience.

More Speech Reviews:
"I found your presentations exactly what I had hoped for. I am always delighted with working with 'artists'. You guys see reality from a wonderfully different vantage point. I am always refreshed and enriched by such things as you presented. There was so much content that it would have made a nice two-credit course in the catalogue."
Ed Windhaus, Event Coordinator, Swarthmore College

"Dennis Marcellino is a superb presenter! I would highly recommend Dennis to those desiring a stimulating and entertaining program."
Dr. Keith H. Swenson, Event Coordinator and Professor of Biology, Multnomah University

"Dennis Marcellino wowed his audience with some wonderful music, but even more importantly bowled them over with his scientific discoveries."
Terry Hughes, Event Coordinator

"Dennis Marcellino is a man of many talents and interests. His hour-long program was well-received by the audience. He deeply cares about the negative experiences people are going through in our world today, and his mission is to show that these sufferings are unnecessary and that a great solution exists."
Bill Bennett, (review in) The Capitol Voice"

More about Dennis and his presentation:

• Dennis recognizes why people often use alcohol and drugs, especially as young adults as they join new groups and experiment with new ways to try to find out who they really are and how they will be as adults and how to enjoy life. His presentation gives information to help save students needless and sometimes dangerous experimentation by giving shortcuts on how to know and be who they really are. This is important because, just like a musical instrument doesn’t make good music until it is in tune ... our minds, emotions and bodies don’t yield good experiences until they are in tune with how they are designed to function.

• The solution ultimately lies in a person realizing how living in harmony with the natural design of their being, brings inner peace, happiness and strength ... whereas going against it leads to weakness, inner pain and bad feelings, which are things that people usually try to run from with alcohol and drugs. Understanding and cooperating with our natural design is critical to our happiness. And that is the source of inner strength that allows us to say no to anything that's not good for us.

• Dennis’ slogan is: “You can’t expect that someone will say no to abusing alcohol and drugs until they have something better to say yes to.”

• Dennis shares insights about how there are non-negotiable laws of how our minds, emotions and bodies are designed to function, and how being in harmony with those designs yields inner strength, peace and an inspired life (as opposed to weakness, confusion, inner pain or boredom).

• Dennis is a speaker and media personality with an entertaining, informative style that keeps the listener on the edge of their seat. This is verified by the reviews and recommendations from event planners listed on this page.

• Students will also hear dramatic stories of first-hand experiences demonstrating why they would want to avoid abusing drugs. Experience is not the best teacher, but rather learning from the experiences of others is the best teacher (as it saves you the pain).

• Dennis can also include performing a song or two such as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", which he has performed professionally many times as a former member of The Tokens, the band who had this hit. This always gets a great crowd response. Plus he has been reviewed as one of the best sax players in the world.

Reviews for Dennis' books and materials on addiction:

"Clearly, you have won your war against drugs as you have been drug free for years. Your success in overcoming addiction is to be commended. It is our wish that every person stricken with an addiction to drugs can overcome it with the success you have had. It is our hope that every other person can understand the devastation that occurs through addiction and makes it a personal goal to stay clear of drugs. It is the dedication of people like you that give all of us hope for the future.”
G. Albert Howenstein, Jr., Exec. Dir., Office Of Criminal Justice Planning, California Governor's office

"This book 'iced' my cousin, who was heavily into drugs. He took the book's
advice and now he's off of drugs and happy. I'd like to order 10 more copies."
Constance Elliot, U.S. Dept. of Health, Washington D.C.

"...frank and friendly...sincere and optimistic...not only concerned with ridding
people's lives of drugs, but also with leading them to a higher state of being and
greater fulfillment as individuals...a sympathetic voice which will affect readers
for the better...This book is personal rather than systematically therapeutic or a
'pop' treatment of a current social concern...touches upon the important factors
of human life---the self, relationships, mates, and others."
Corinne Perry Buck, The Small Press Book Review ('feature' review)

"I was severely addicted to alcohol and cocaine. I'd tried everything I could find, including AA and Narc-Anon. But it wasn't until I followed the Addiction Free Forever program that I finally experienced an inner strength that allowed me to conquer my addiction problem."
Quote from a pilot for a major airline who flunked his drug test

Dear Dennis,

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I have to say about your program is good news. My name is Ben ****** from Wisconsin. I had been involved with drugs and alcohol for 5 years of my life through High School and a year after High school. I had struggled for a year or so before I was successful (took an owi to get there). I was surprized how fast (it) worked in me it was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced. I have no desire to use drugs or alcohol anymore. My life was starting to go on the upsweep by following your program. My mom has helped me so much, she was the one who told me about your program. I had such a feeling of peace and love come over me I felt high ... it was definitely awesome. It never really went away either I still feel it within me as I write this to you. I never really quite understood it until I actually felt it. I wanted to share my good news with you that I no longer smoke, drink or do anything risky to get an unnatural high anymore and life is excellent for me now. Thank you again Ben (Wisconsin)

Dear Dennis,

I wanted to write to you to thank you for saving my life, literally. Not long ago, I was in despair and ready to take my own life. I have been an alcoholic for several years and lost everything that has been important to me because of that. But most recently, I had gotten engaged to a person who I consider an angel from God. Well my drinking and lack of success with my work lead to her leaving me and not wanting to continue together. I was completely broken and ready to take my own life. And when I say ready, I'm talking about seconds away from squeezing the trigger. Somehow by the grace of God I didn't and today I feel better than ever. God somehow lead my online to order your book and I did. I was broken down, crying and ready to end it and somehow I found your book online and ordered it right away. Well I wanted to say thank you for saving my life. That's not a joke. Between what you had written in your book, plus the strength that God put in me, I did not take my own life. Because of alcohol, I lost everything in my life. Money, a good job, and the most important person in my life. Well NO MORE!! I will never take another drink in my life, and I can say that without a problem. I almost checked myself into a rehab facility but instead just followed your book and ever since have been on my way to a better more fulfilling life. I wanted to thank you for everything. I often sit down and read your book over and over because it just makes more sense every time I read it. Dennis, you and God together saved my life!!! I have an 11 year old daughter who obviously has no idea mentally where I was or how close I was to ending it. So I want to say thank you on behalf of her and myself. For anyone out there who thinks you’re better off dead, I'm here to tell you your wrong. Dennis, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my daughter too. I will never go back to the person I was. If ever I can help you, don't ever hesitate to give me a call.

Thank you again (New Jersey)

"I was addicted to Oxycontin and your great program freed me from that. I will be forever grateful to you." (Oregon)
